July 30 - August 3, 2008
The international conference, "Carnival, 'A People's Art' and Taking Back the Streets", was hosted at York University in Toronto by Artmob Principal Investigator, Professor Christopher Innes. Innes chaired the keynote addresses and the panel on Caribbean Carnival Traditions.
Other Artmob participants included Professor Rosemary Coombe (Principal Investigator), who chaired panels on European Carnival Traditions and Politics, Economics, & Carnival, and researcher David Meurer, who chaired a panel on Preserving Carnival.
Based on panels, papers, and informal discussion, the key points of intersection for Artmob's research - culture, digital archives, and copyright - are of critical importance to scholars, administrators, and creators whose work is oriented to carnival.
