Convergences: Law, Language & Culture

August 2-16, 2009

Artmob principal investigator Rosemary J. Coombe and senior research assistant David Meurer attended Convergences: Law, Language & Culture the First International Osnabrück Summer School on the Cultural Study of the Law from August 2 to 16 2009. The summer school was sponsored by the University of Osnabrück, IFAA (Institute for English and American Studies) and DAAD (The German Academic Exchange Service).

Professor Coombe participated as a faculty member and delivered a focus lecture on legal culture and cultural rights. David Meurer attended as a student and delivered a paper at the final symposium entitled "Novel Futures: Problems of Authorship in Electronic Literature".

The Summer School presented opportunities to conduct research related to the principles underpinning the Artmob CMS project in an international, interdisciplinary and collegial setting. Workshops were organized according to four main thematic areas: Cultural Presence and Representation of the Law; Property, Personhood and Copyright; Legal Culture and Cultural Rights; and Language of the Law.
