Artmob Beta Launch EventJanuary 13, 2011 Artmob introduced and demonstrated the current beta version of Artmob CMS software for members of the Osgoode Law School and York University Community on January 13th. The demonstration generated rich discussion that touched on interpretations of fair dealing, the implications of hosting and server infrastructure, and the possibilities for shaping cultural policy. The demonstration showcased recently completed tools fundamental to the envisioned functionality of the Artmob CMS system. These tools include a rich attribution system for inputting rights holder information for multiple works nested within a single, digital file such as multiple copyrighted stories within a collection, or several musical compositions licensed for the soundtrack to a movie. Other features that were demonstrated included interfaces that invite dialogue and communication about the creation of cultural works, and an exhibit tool that encourages the creation of transformative, curated collections of digitized cultural works. The design and development of these tools is motivated by a need to innovate solutions to the intellectual property challenges that arise in the creation of digital archives and collections of Canadian cultural works.
